How Do We Do It?
Though much of our contribution is in the form of volunteer labor,
our ability to make
monetary contributions depends on our fund-raising success.
Each May we do the famous "White Cane" program, soliciting funds
for the Lions Eye Bank
and distributing Donor Cards, while in October we do a similar
solicitation for the Hearing
Foundation. During the year we also collect old eye glasses and
used hearing aids for recycling.
On Armed Forces Day, in conjunction with the annual parade, we
host, as we have for many
years, the Armed Forces Day Pancake Breakfast.
In the mid-year, we have a "Tail Gate Party" type of rummage sale
for one day.
Through the years we have maintained a "Recycling
Committee" dealing with the recycling
of aluminum cans and newspapers, which are taken to dumpsters at
various shopping centers.
In the fall we host a Seafood Dinner/Auction, which has become
quite popular and is one
of our major fund-raisers.
Our "Gumball & Mint" committee is successful each year through the
placement of Mints
and Gumball machines at business establishments throuighout the
community.
For the past ten years we have sponsored Travelogue Shows, widely
enjoyed by the senior
population of the community.
On the average each year, we will realize over $20,000 dollars to
fund the projects we
have dedicated ourselves to.
